Groundhog Day!
Today is Groundhog Day! According the the story, on February 2nd the groundhog emerges from its burrow. If it does not see its shadow, it will come out of hibernation, leave the burrow, and there will be six more weeks until spring. But if the groundhog does see its shadow, it goes back to its burrow and there will be six more weeks of winter.
I was explaining the tradition to my husband, and he said, ”Six weeks until spring or six more weeks of winter–that’s the same thing!” Yeah, that’s why it’s funny
.
This week we are basing our schooling activities on this silly holiday. It’s a great opportunity to talk about weather, light/shadows, and hibernation. We are going to base a lot of our reading and writing activities on these subjects. I’ll update with more details as our week goes on.
But in the meantime, I made a little freebie for you

My grandma always said it was “6 weeks of winter if he sees his shadow, and if he doesn’t see it, it’s a month and a half until spring.”
That is the CUTEST groundhog I’ve ever seen!!

This is so cute, Pam!!
I never heard the saying that way. I always heard that if he didn’t see his shadow, it would mean an early spring, and if he did, it would mean six more weeks of winter. Of course, it’s just for fun, but with as much as I hate cold, I’ll root for anything that gives me hope of early spring weather. LOL

Actually, being from PA, I have to tell you it’s 6 more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow and if he doesn’t, Spring is right around the corner. yeah, either way it’s still a while off!!! LOL….. thanks for the cute little groundhog!!!!

I can’t get enough of your felty goodness – I’m off to buy the grab bag and am soooo happy with the theme you chose for it. I have a feeling it will really help with 365 pages and some chore charts I need to make!
