We’ve moved several times in the last several years but this time has been the hardest by far. I think it’s because every other time we’ve moved long distance so we had to have everything packed and cleaned all at once, then we had a fresh start at the new place. But this time since we were only moving to the next town over we moved things much slower, several trips at a time, and it’s drug on and onnnnnnn.

Now that we’re officially finished with the old place and into the new place and I’m excited to unpack, decorate, and settle in. Our “new” 100 year old house is a huge contrast from our previous new-construction home. It smells like an old lady, and has sloped uneven original wood floors, and peeling paint. But there is also so much character in it’s design and feels like a place where stories have been told, and will continue to be told.
In helping the kids through the transition, we first set up their rooms before turning our attention to the rest of the house. I can deal with eating off paper plates until the kitchen is unpacked, and staring at blank walls while the pictures are waiting to be hung. Jared and I even crashed on the couch and love seat the first couple of nights until we had the energy to set up our bed. But setting up the kids’ beds and pulling out their toys helped them gain a sense of security and they’ve been pretty cooperative as I’ve gone on to tackle the rest of the boxes. (New crayons and coloring books have helped too!)

Do you have any tips on settling in? I know this place will feel like home soon enough, we’re just not there yet.

Until everything is unpacked, I feel like moving has robbed our home of design! But when it comes to cooling down, you can incorporate style into your design with The Dyson Air Multiplier which is available in table, tower and pedestal sizes. With no fast-spinning blades, it’s safe, easy to clean, and generates smooth air with no buffeting. Keep cool with Dyson Air Multiplier. Learn more at www.dyson.com/cooling.

My biggest tip would be to pick one room and get it finished feeling. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to be finished enough to feel like home.
Honestly, that’s normally a small bathroom for me. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s an easy room to finish because of the size.
Good luck settling it. It’s tough to do with little ones under foot.
