Halloween Silhouettes

And you thought digital designs were only used for digital scrapbooking? Ha.

This CUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE Halloween Silhouette tutorial (starring digital doodles) is brought to you by my girl crush Valorie Wibbens! Val has some of the cutest ideas and I’ve admired her from afar for a while now. . . Definitely stalk her check her out. And her digital designs. Oh, and this ADORABLE skeleton tin. And maybe when I grow up I’ll scrap like her. . . .

Ok, moving on to the post now! Enjoy!

I thought it’d be fun to make framed Halloween silhouettes out of some digi products today!

They’re pretty simple to make and I just used frames I already had. . . .

I also used Kate Hadfield’s Frank ‘n Friends doodles for this project.

To create the silhouette, I opened a new 5×7 (that’s the size frame I had) white background document in Photoshop and then placed a doodle on the background. I positioned them how I wanted them. . . . then stroked them.

To stroke an element:

  • Double click the thumbnail in the layers palette (that will create the dancing ants around the element)
  • Create a new layer on top of that layer (command J)
  • Go to EDIT- STROKE (I used 5 px, black, centered)
  • Press ok

Then I “HID” the actual doodled element in the layers palette and was left with just an outline.

Then I printed it on. . . can you believe it. . .BLACK cardstock. YES, it totally worked! I was so excited! Then I just cut them out along the outline and placed them each on a 5×7 white cardstock!

I thought about printing them in a full black silhouette and then I wouldn’t have to cut them but. . . I was cheap and didn’t want to waste my ink!!! lol!!! Up to you though!

Wanna give it a try? I’d love to see it!
