I’ve bought hummus several times but have never made it, so today was the day. Surprisingly easy. I searched for some recipes to get the basic idea, then put this one together:
Basic Hummus
- 1 can garbonzo beans, drained
- 1 TBSP olive oil
- 3 TBSP lemon juice
- 1 tsp. minced garlic
- salt to taste
- dash of hot sauce
- 1/4 cup water
Puree all in a blender or food processor, and serve with warm pita bread, pita chips, or fresh veggies.
On our Menu: Sloppy Joes, Pita Chips, Hummus, Fresh Veggies, Apple Slices
I like hummus. My husband does not. But he ate this and said it was good (I think it was more of a polite “it was good” though). This was garlicy, which I liked, but I like garlic if you haven’t already noticed
. I can definitely see myself experimenting with this basic recipe and think it was a great dip for veggies (which I am always trying to eat more of).

Yummy! I would love to try making hummus, I’ll try your recipe!!

My hubby and I are hummus lovers! He takes some just about every day in his lunch! We are also big on garlic! LOL! When a recipe calls for garlic cloves I usually at least double the amount that it calls for! Anyways, I thought I would share this different type of hummus (well more of a black bean dip, but whatever) and maybe your hubby would like it better.
BLACK BEAN HUMMUS
2 Tbsp. Garlic Powder, or 1-2 Cloves of Garlic
1 (15 oz.) Can Black Beans, Drained, Liquid Reserved
2 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
¾ Tsp. Ground Cumin
½ Tsp. Salt
¼ Tsp. Cayenne Pepper
¼ Tsp. Paprika
Green Chilies
and this is one I make often:
EXTRA EASY HUMMUS
1 (15 oz.) Can Garbanzo Beans, Drained, Liquid Reserved
2 Tbsp. Garlic Powder or 1 Clove Garlic, Crushed
2 Tbsp. Ground Cumin
½ Tsp. Salt
1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
Lemon Juice, to taste
In a blender or food processor, combine all ingredients. Blend on low speed adding reserved bean liquid, until desired consistency is achieved.
