Create a cut-and-paste fall leaf craft with your kids! Such a fun and constructive way for little ones to practice their fine motor skills while creating a seasonal project to display.
Though my kids get a lot of freetime, I’m also a fan of keeping them constructively and creatively busy.
Because when my three-year-old doesn’t have something supervised to do — she’ll often mimic the big kids by creating her own “homework” or “art projects.” (Like practicing her newly-learned scissor skills on anything she can hack those dull child-size blades through–such as paper, hair, baby sister’s shirt, etc.!)
So this cut-and-paste fall leaf craft project is one I love because it keeps her busy while developing those necessary pre-school fine motor skills!
Supplies for Cut-and-Paste Fall Leaf Craft
- Colored Paper
- Kid-size scissors
- Glue stick
- Print-outs of simple shapes (such as the leaf example shown)
Time to Create!
First, I gave my preschooler a scrap of colored paper with the instructions to “cut away!” (keeping the pieces on the table).
When she’d cut to her heart’s content, we gathered the cut pieces and saved them in a plastic bag for another day.
The next time I needed a project for her to work on, I gave her a glue stick and print-outs of simple leaf shapes.
Then I showed her how to glue the scraps she’d previously cut inside the leaf outlines and told her to “cover all the white spaces” and “try to stay in the lines.”
The project is simple, but a good way for kids to practice cutting and gluing in a creative and constructive way.
Our preschooler was quite proud of her final results and the fall leaf craft looked so festive as a seasonal display!
To create a fall leaf craft just like this one, the leaf shapes (as many other activities!) can be found in our Woodland-themed activities and printables.
