Some of my favorite Christmas memories are of my mom reading holiday stories by the crackling wood stove right before bed. It represents a time of peace and safety for me, and I want my own kids to have similar memories. (Plus, I’m a sucker for any excuse to buy children’s literature!) So one year I had the idea to give our kids a new Christmas book each Christmas Eve and then they would have a nice collection to pass on to their kids one day.
My newly started “tradition” only lasted about three years though–because I decided buying four copies of each book to store away for “later” was a bit excessive, and that I really just wanted to focus on building up a collection that we could enjoy now.
And so as we shifted the “tradition” our own collection has been growing. (Here’s my secret: thrift stores, after-holiday clearance bins, and book fairs are all perfect places to find holiday books at reasonable prices!)
Here are a few of the cute titles we’ve discovered and enjoyed reading together:
How the Grinch Stole Christmas | Biggest Christmas Tree Ever | How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas?
Who’s That Knocking on Christmas Eve? | The Birds of Bethlehem | Dream Snow
The Christmas Baby | The Christmas Train | Home for Christmas
The Polar Express | The Legend of the Christmas Stocking | Christmas in Camelot
Room for a Little One | 12 Days of Christmas | Legend of the Candy Cane
The Christmas Miracle | The Biggest Snowman Ever | How Santa Got His Job
