Melting Snowman Winter Snack

Snow is unpredictable where we live in the Midwest. Some years it seems we’ll barely be able to shovel ourselves out of the driveway and, other years, we may only get a light dusting–which quickly melts by mid-morning. This has been one of those snow-free years (so far, anyway!), and my kids are anxiously hoping for one good storm so they can go out and build snowmen. But, as a mother who has to dress (and undress) five little kids for snow play, cozy indoor “snow play” — like making Arctic Snow Dough, building felt board snowmen or making a winter-themed snack — is more appealing to me! Luckily kids love making this fun build-your-own Melting Snowman Winter Snack, and I love that it’s simple enough for an everyday kind of snack time, or a winter-themed party activity.

Melting Snowman Winter Snack Ingredients

Since this fun winter-themed snack idea is simple enough to make for one, or many, it doesn’t come with exact measurements or precise directions. Gather the ingredients and follow the method, adapting for the number you’re making.

You’ll Need:

  • vanilla Snack Pack® pudding cups
  • large marshmallows
  • chocolate sandwich cookies
  • chocolate chips or melting chocolate
  • coconut oil (skip if using melting chocolate)
  • edible embellishments for snowman accessories such as: stick pretzels, chocolate chips, cereal pieces, small candies, fruit leather strips etc.

Making Hats for the Melting Snowman Winter Snack

To make the hats for each Melting Snowman Winter Snack, place a small handful of chocolate chips in a glass bowl with a teaspoon of coconut oil.

Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then for another 30 seconds if needed, until chocolate is melted.

Dip a large marshmallow in the chocolate to cover completely, then immediately place on top of a sandwich cookie to create a “hat.” As the chocolate cools it will adhere the marshmallow to the cookie.

Making the Melting Snowman Winter Snack

For each snack, empty contents of a vanilla Snack Pack® pudding cup on an individual serving dish (plate or bowl). Gently spread the pudding to mimic a pile of melting snow.

Place a marshmallow cookie hat on top of the pudding, have kids to embellish their melting snowman snacks with edible additions such as chocolate chips, small candies, stick pretzels, or fruit leather strips to emulate coal buttons, a carrot nose, stick arms, scarf, etc.

Have fun and get creative! Kids love adding their own mix-ins and making this build-your-own snowman pudding snack their own.
