Since we live just a couple of hours from a full-size replica of the Parthenon, we were able to continue our study of Ancient Greece by taking a day-cation field trip to Nashville.
I laughed with Jared as we realized what a nerdy homeschooling family we’ve become–spending our spring break exploring ancient architecture. But while we may have been the only young family there, my kids were fascinated as the mythological characters we’d read about came to life.
There was even a proud mommy moment when Emmy–on her own–brought her Hello Kitty notebook and pencil so she could take “notes.”
I wish I could take the credit for the idea, but I know it can’t be attributed to anything I’ve taught them–rather, encouraging their interests has prompted independence and they’re beginning to take charge of their own learning.
I.love.it. And I even breathed a little sigh of relief that maybe this homeschooling thing is going better than I sometimes think.
Do you have any tips for taking kids to a museum? I’m working on a post and I’m interested to know what’s worked for you.

We went on this field trip a few years ago. It was so cool. My kids loved it too.

I love this! I’ve always wanted to take this field trip — and you are inspiring me to do it this summer with the kids. What precious kiddos you have!
