The saying is that “March comes in like a lion,” meaning March is usually WINDY. But no matter your weather, — this simple kite craft template makes a unique springtime creation and adorable art project worthy of a bulletin-board or fridge-hanging display.
We live in a valley where springtime is very windy, so we were anxious to start this month with the fun theme of “windy weather” and the cutest book!
The Windy Day is a beautifully illustrated little board book that introduces readers to WIND as the wind flies a kite, fills the sails of ships on the sea, helps birds fly, and more! The talking points in the story perfectly introduce windy weather, and will inspire kids to go out and fly a kite!
Or maybe they’ll want to create their own! Download and print your windy day kite craft template, and have fun with this springtime craft.
Kite Craft Supplies:
- Kite Printable Craft Template
- white paper or card stock
- crayons/markers/paint/paint sticks
- scissors
- glue
- black marker
- (optional) colored card stock, patterned paper, painted paper or watercolor resist painted paper
Download & Print Kite Craft Template
Download the kite template and print on white paper or card stock. We prefer card stock as it makes the craft sturdier, especially when using markers or paint.
Color or Paint the Template
Color or paint the kite template. My kids love any excuse to get out the paint, but crayons or markers work great too!
Cut & Assemble the Kite Craft
Cut around each template piece, and cut a piece of string, about 10 inches or so.
Assemble the kite by attaching the string to the back of the diamond shape with tape or glue. Then attach ties to the sting as well. Mount to a piece of cardstock, if desired.
Hang your windy day kite on the bulletin board or fridge for a colorful springtime display!
This template can be found in my Teacher’s Pay Teacher’s store on its own, or as part of the Windy Day Activities bundle. If you purchase The Windy Day book from my online book shop, I’ll send you the Windy Day printables FREE! 🙂
